> Training > Extreme Networks EMR-300/2: Extreme IP Multicast Routing Course Description Course Description The Extreme IP Multicast Routing Concepts and Configuration course provides individuals with the opportunity to learn the concepts and techniques of IP multicasting in a switched Ethernet and routed IP environment using the Extreme XOS switch OS. Implementation and configuration of the IP Multicast protocols, IGMP, PIM-DM, PIM-SM and other multicast protocols will be discussed. This course is designed in a lecture/lab format. After concepts have been discussed, a comprehensive lab exercise follows to enhance the knowledge learned. CLI commands are introduced throughout the course, which is laid out in a most-effective means that will accomplish utmost learning of concepts. Target Audience This course is designed for individuals who are responsible for the design and troubleshooting of IP Multicasting in networks that incorporate Extreme Networks products. Course Prerequisites Working familiarity of LAN concepts, including Ethernet and TCP/IP protocol knowledge. Also a basic knowledge of Extreme configuration and troubleshooting techniques is needed. These prerequisites can be met with attending the Extreme Introduction courses EDN-100/3 and EIP-100/2 and the Configuration and Fundamentals course ECF-200/5. Students learn to: Describe the application and basic functions of multicasting. Describe the format of Ethernet and IP multicast addresses. Describe and configure the Internet Group Management Protocol. Define Join and Prune operations. Define Reverse Path Forwarding. Define Source and Shared multicast trees. Define Protocol Independent Multicast Dense and Sparse modes. Configure Protocol Independent Multicast Dense and Sparse mode trees. Identify and describe the protocols used to meet the challenges of deploying multicasting over the Internet. Describe the Distance Vector Multicast Routing Protocol.
