I'm new to Extreme Networks products. What course is the best one to get me up to speed? A. If you haven't configured Extreme Networks switches before, then the best course to take would be the ExtremeXOS: Operation & Configuration (EXOC) course. This teaches you everything you need to know to install Extreme switches into a network and to manage and operate the switches in an existing network. The additional benefit of attending this course, is that it is the pre-requisite course for the Extreme Networks Associate (ENA) certification. Q. I'm new to Extreme Networks products but I have a lot of experience with other network equipment. What course is the best one to get me up to speed? A. If you're new to Extreme Networks switches but have a lot of experience configuring other network equipment, then the best course would still be the ExtremeXOS: Operation & Configuration (EXOC) course. The clue is really in the name. Although you may have the necessary networking skills, you still need to know how to configure an Extreme Networks' switch. This course gets you up to speed on the command line configuration commands you'll need to install and to manage Extreme switches. Q. I'm new to Extreme Networks products but I have a lot of experience with other network equipment. Can I take the ENA exam without attending any training courses? A. The ENA exam is actually based on the ExtremeXOS: Operation & Configuration (EXOC) course and not on general networking principles. It would be virtually impossible to pass the exam without attending the EXOC training course. Why not attend the EXOC course and be sure that you get your ENA certification without the added stress of taking an exam? Q. I would like to attend the ExtremeXOS: Operation & Configuration (EXOC) course, but travelling is difficult or not possible. Is there another option for me? A. If you can't travel to our training centre, then why not take the ExtremeXOS: Operation & Configuration (EXOC) virtual class. This on-line version of the EXOC course is run regularly, and you get the training over the web by our experienced instructors and direct access to our remote labs for all the hands on configuration work. Q. Can I take my ENS exam without having obtained my ENA certification? A. No. You must have a valid ENA certification before you can become ENS certified. Q. What courses must I take in order to obtain my ENS certification? A. Firstly you would need to attend the ExtremeXOS: Operation & Configuration (EXOC) course to attain you ENA. Then you should attend each of the following courses: Finally, you must take and pass the ENS exam, which consists of is 25% written, 75% practical exercises. Q. I need to obtain my ENS certification in a hurry. What options are available to me? A. There are two options available to you. Firstly, if you are able to travel, then why not take the ExtremeXOS: Extreme Networks Specialist (ENS) Accelerated (ENSA-300/5) course, which runs over 4 days with the ENS exam on the 5th day. This is scheduled on demand every 3 months or so, so contact us if you're interested. Secondly, this course is also available as a virtual class, so if you can't travel to our training centre, then why not register yourself on this course. It runs once every 3 months and you get the training over the web by our experienced instructors and direct access to our remote labs for all the hands on configuration work. Q. Can I take my ENS exam without taking any of the ENS courses? A. If you are new to Extreme Networks switches, it is recommended that you attend the ENS courses, because the exam is based on the content of these course, and it would be virtually impossible to pass without this information. Additionally, the ENS exam is heavily biased towards command line (CLI) configuration. If you are not an expert in configuring Extreme switches using the CLI, then you will almost certainly fail. If you are an experienced in configuring Extreme Network switches, then you should attend the ENS Coaching course, which provides you with the relevant knowledge and configuration skills necessary to pass you ENS test. Q. I already know EAPS, OSPF and IP Multicast. Do I need to take the EIRN, EIAO and EIMR courses in order to pass the ENS exam? A. The ENS exams are based on the ENS courses, and if you have not attended those courses it is unlikely you will pass the exam. The ENS exams test your ability to configure extreme switches in a limited amount of time, and unless you are configuring all the features of Extreme switches on a daily basis, you will probably fail the exam. This applies also to the EIAS course. Q. How long are the ENA and ENS certifications valid for? A. Both the ENA and ENS certifications are valid for 2 years. You will need to re-sit the respective exam if you wish to maintain your certification. Q. If I want to re-certify for ENA or ENS, do I need to attend any courses? A. For current ENS certified engineers who wish to re-certify, then you should attend the ENS Coaching course, which provides you with the relevant knowledge and configuration skills necessary to pass your ENS test. The ENS exam itself is included as part of the course. Q. I want to re-certify for ENS but my certification has lapsed. How do I re-certify? A. For lapsed ENS certified engineers who wish to re-certify, then you should attend all the ENS courses listed above to get all the updates on new features and products, and then take the ENS exam. Alternatively, if you just need to "brush up" your skills then why not attend the ENS Coaching course mentioned above. It provides you with the relevant knowledge and configuration skills necessary to pass your ENS test. The ENS exam itself is included as part of the course. Q. If I want to re-certify for ENS, do I need to re-certify for ENA first? A. No. If your ENS certification has expired, then you only need to attend the ENS courses or take the ENS exam in order to re-certify. Bear in mind that if you have not had much hands-on exposure to the switches, then you should attend the updated ENS courses or the ENS Coaching course in order to be sure you will pass the exam. Q. I would like to take my ENA and ENS exams, but travelling is difficult or not possible. Is there another option for me? A. If you can't travel to our training centre to take your exams, then you can take any of the ENA or ENS exams on-line. These are available on the scheduled testing dates, or on-demand if you can't make those specific dates. Register yourself or contact us for more information. Q. I'm familiar with all Extreme XOS features and functionality, however I can't get access to equipment to practice my hands-on configuration skills. What can I do? A. If you have problems getting access to equipment to practice your configuration skills, then you can reserve a slot for accessing our remote labs. These are available most days, and you can reserve a "seat" by the hour or day. If you purchase a day's remote access time, then you have this for a 24hr period. © netconsult online, all rights reserved |
